Ecofriendly Cleaning Products I'm Using This Year

Posted by Tiana Lopez on

When the hysteria of the pandemic broke out I found myself like many others snatching bottles of Well known brands off of the shelf. Harsh chemicals, bleach, corrosive and terrible smells. I wanted to make sure my home and office were CLEAN. I didn’t hoard products but I grabbed what I could and continued in that way for a couple months. It wasn’t until last month that I began having conversations with my sister about the way I was cleaning. I hated these products but I thought they were the only way to be “safe” from the dreaded virus. I abandoned my intuition and way of living out of fear and despair. Now I’m back in a place where I remember my values and trust I have in myself and nature.

Growing up we used conventional cleaners just like many other households. Cleaning was important, taught and emphasized. Chores were regular and expected and often part of a Saturday morning that was complete with playing “the oldies” and eating a good home cooked breakfast afterwards. Cleaning our homes is a ritual that is essential to our well being mentally and physically. My love for nature and natural attraction to flowers & the outside world led me to this way of cleaning. I purchased a book , (  The Naturally Clean Home )  that helped me learn more about the benefits of using natural products in the home. When I was out of my parent’s home and into my first apartment I began incorporating these eco friendly products into our home. I was fortunate enough to have a house mate that shared the same ideals and also taught me the benefits of using eco friendly laundry items to help with skin irritations.

So, why do I choose eco friendly products?

  1. They have the best smells!  Honestly ( I have so many other things I use to keep my house smelling good that I’ll make a separate future post about that!) Never underestimate the power of aromatherapy

  2. They’re better  for your body, mental, spirit and physical - It gives me great comfort to know that I’m using something that I don’t have to constantly question later.

  3. They’re better for our planet, our water systems, oceans and waste. - Often eco friendly products have less plastic, recycled materials, or no packaging at all. We’re becoming more effective as a society in how we can make better packaging.

It’s that simple!

Also, I looooove cleaning products.  I’ll be honest, I buy way too many of them and I’m working on that. Sometimes I make my own cleaning products as well but I’ve been busy with projects so It suits me best to spend a bit of money and reclaim my time. With that being said you do not have to go out and buy all of these things! You can make your cleaning arsenal as simple or as extra as you want it.  Sometimes Simple is better.

So, I’m sure you’re ready to know what I’m using. I think it’ll be better if I go room by room so let’s jump in.  At the end of this blog I’ll have a full list so you can easily access these products!  Note* That some of these products pictured were only available in my local stores so I’ll link similar products in place of them.

Cleaning in a way that is safe and pleasurable for yourself will make you not only enjoy the experience but want to clean more often and deeper.  I don’t believe that every single product in your home has to be eco friendly and “perfect”-by just making small changes and swaps in a few areas you can contribute to a better planet. The goal is always to do better, not be perfect. I’ll always be looking for more ways to make my home more environmentally friendly as I learn more!
